Motors

Rotary motors for ballscrew stages

A high quality brushless servomotor is a very cost effective, critical component in a high performance ballscrew driven linear stage. A brushless motor is maintenance free, extremely reliable, and long-lived. With the proper selection of magnet material and careful attention to design, a very high torque can be delivered from a small package.

The best designed motors provide smooth velocity profiles and very low torque ripple.

The performance benefits of a brushless servomotor versus a brushed or stepper motor are so great that the small cost differential is insignificant in most high performance/precision applications.

Whether you are upgrading an existing system or building a new system, DC brushless servomotors will be a cost effective investment.

See encoders for performance enhancing options.

Linear motors

Linear motors deliver very smooth, high speed, high accuracy motion. A noncontact forcer coil assembly design eliminates backlash, windup, wear and maintenance issues associated with ballscrew drives. The best linear motors utilize nonferrous cores that eliminate cogging, eliminate magnetic attraction between the forcer and track, and reduce eddy current losses. This translates into better velocity control and better motion profiles at higher speeds and accelerations, reduced bearing load and reduced heat generation for higher performance and longer life.
